Documents and Visas
A visa for tourist stay less than 120 days is not necessary, just be in possession of the passport with at least six months of validity.
The official languages are English and Fijian
Currency and Credit Card
The local currency is the Fijian dollar (FJD). As we often recommend, even in Fiji, the best way is to have different payment options: credit cards, debit cards, travelers’ checks and something in cash. The ideal are Australian, American or New Zealand dollars, which can be exchanged in any bank in the country. ATMs are located in major urban centers, and accept major international credit cards, including Cirrus and Maestro. Remember though that if you go to more remote areas, you will hardly find ATMs. The main credit cards are accepted by restaurants, shops, medium-high-end hotels, as well as travel agencies or car rentals.
How to reach the Fiji Islands
Fiji is about 4 hours flight from Australia, 2 hours from New Zealand, 11 hours from Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Seoul. The international airport is located in Nadi on the island of Viti Levu.
When to go to the Fiji Islands
The Fiji Islands enjoy a tropical temperate climate which makes it an ideal destination at any time of the year. However, the best period is the dry season, the Fiji winter, which runs from May to October, with temperatures ranging from 20 ° to 27 °, when it rains less and there is a lower rate of humidity. The wet period runs from November to April, with higher temperatures and the risk of cyclones, especially from January to March.
Which and how many are the Fiji Islands
Fiji is an archipelago of about 330 volcanic islands scattered in the South Pacific that occupy about 18,400 km2 of the Melanesian area. The two largest islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. In the first there are the most important cities in the country, the capital Suva, Lautoka and Nadi, the tourist city where the International Airport is located. Further north is the second largest island, Vanua Levu, with its main population centers of Labasa and Savusavu. Vanua Levu is the favorite destination for lovers of trekking and diving. However, the coveted postcard beaches are not found on the two main islands, but in the smaller islands. These islands are divided into archipelagos, among the most famous and perhaps the most beautiful are the Mamanuca group and the Yasawa group, both of which can be reached from Nadi, both by sea and by air.

Departure Ports: SYDNEY
The South Pacific islands — or Polynesian Islands — are comprised of islands such as Fiji, American Samoa, Samoa, French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, Easter Island, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Rarotonga, and Micronesia. To some, the South Pacific means Australia and New Zealand, which have their own lure.
WHAT TO EAT AT FIJI ISLANDS?
Fijian traditional cuisine is made up of sweet potatoes, taro, bananas, coconut and coconut milk, rice, cassava, fish and vegetables especially in leaf as primary ingredients. Among the fruit that grows on the island, there are papayas above all, then banana, pineapple, mango and coconut, but also citrus fruits, guava, avocado, passion fruit and the fruit of the bread tree. Among the vegetables, there are salad, cucumbers, carrots, pumpkin, green beans, Chinese cabbage, tomatoes, ocher, courgettes, aubergines. Not to forget, then, the huge production of sugar cane in the Fiji Islands.
On Viti Levu, the main island of Fiji, the offer is really vast and it will be very easy to find everything, from markets to luxury restaurants. The markets, in particular, are the best place to get an idea of the great variety of fresh products that these islands offer and, perhaps, to taste a fruit or vegetable that had never been seen before! Every city has a local market that sells vegetables and fruit, but also snacks made at the time. The stalls are spartan but very colorful, with a great variety and the goods impeccably displayed.
Restaurants are really of all kinds, and it won’t be easy to find those that serve fresh fish, perhaps with a sea view, or those that serve Indian spicy or tasty cuisine. A restaurant that we recommend it’s the restaurant of the Bedarra Beach Inn hotel located in Korotogo, on the Coral Coast (the southern coast of Viti Levu). A cool terrace, live local music played by three very nice Fijians, very kind waitresses with typical clothes, a great variety of fresh fish, delicious dishes and limited shopping.
Some tips on food in Fiji
- Only prefer fresh and well-cooked foods
- Avoid shellfish if you have doubts about the hygiene of the place
- Use cutlery and utensils to serve that are clean and above all dry
- Wash the fruit and raw vegetables with bottled water
- Drink only bottled water and, in drinks other than water, ask for no ice to be placed (which will be the default if you don’t ask)
- Try the reef fish (reef fish) only in restaurants or places you trust, because some of these fish can be poisonous
