Cortina D’Ampezzo, pearl of the Dolomites. The Conca d’Ampezzo, where the famous Cortina tourist resort is located, is surrounded by a crown of mountains that make it a unique and unmissable destination, both in summer and in winter. A magical place that the din of mass tourism has not affected, where getting lost in intact woods admiring steep walls of a thousand colors, discovering a unique natural territory and an ancient culture where traditions are still alive and an integral part of action daily. Olympic city (2026 Winter Olympics) and privileged place of sweet life, it has been a showcase of exclusivity and style for over a century. Cortina is the ideal destination for an active, adventure-filled Golf holiday.
Few alpine locations can boast such a high concentration of famous and extraordinarily beautiful mountains like Cortina. Yes, because from the Conca d’Ampezzo wherever you turn your eyes, you can see mountains, mountains and more mountains above the green of the woods.
And what mountains! Lying at 1224 meters above sea level at the bottom of the Valle del Boite, the renowned tourist resort occupies the northernmost portion of the province of Belluno, on the border with South Tyrol, and is surrounded by a crown of mountain groups that has no equal. To the west is the imposing Tofane Group, to the northeast the Pomagagnon dominated by the characteristic jagged profile of the Cristallo Group; to the southeast the Sorapiss stands out, while to the south-west this mind-boggling horizon closes the Groups of the Croda da Lago-Cernera and of the Nuvolau. Together these mountains form the so-called Ampezzo Dolomites, and represent a true paradise for every hiker.
Suffice it to say that the beauty of 400 kilometers of paths is counted, 300 of which in the Cortina municipality alone. It is no coincidence that the most famous Dolomite treks pass through here: the Alta Via delle Dolomiti n ° 1 and the n ° 3. There really is something for all tastes, from the easiest and most relaxing walks among pastures and woods, to the historical itineraries on the places of the Great War, up to long and demanding excursions between wild valleys and dolomitic ridges; from the via ferratas (there are about twenty, from the historical to the more athletic and spectacular modern tracks) to mythical climbs on large walls where important pages of the history of mountaineering have been written.
The predominance of the cold season over the summer gets thinner and thinner, and despite the fact that every winter the slopes and streets of Cortina are extraordinarily crowded with tourists from every corner of the world, in recent decades the inhabitants have been able to grasp the evolution of alpine tourism , offering a wide range of outdoor activities. There are countless mountain huts and shelters offering excellent food and overnight stays, some facilities are also open in the summer, the trail network is taken care of and signaled, special routes for mountain bikes are created. And if in some ways the cliché of Cortina remains as an “exclusive” destination for a glossy magazine, it is equally true that the territory of the Conca d’Ampezzo is a unique, marvelous place, where everyone can find his space, in the crowd like in solitude, in adrenaline-filled fun as in the silent contemplation of the majestic Dolomite scenery.

WHAT TO EAT IN CORTINA D’AMPEZZO
The typical Ampezzan cuisine is also called a border cuisine as its gastronomy has strong links with Tyrolean and Western Austrian cuisine. Pasta is the undisputed protagonist of the Ampezzo cuisine but the fruits of the undergrowth also play a fundamental role in those used for the preparation of desserts, ice cream and especially jams that accompany local cheeses and game dishes.
The Chenedi are balls of stuffed breadcrumbs and are the Ampezzo version of Tyrolean dumplings (Tyrolean knödel). Chenedi are absolutely the main dish of the Ampezzo cuisine and are filled with speck, cheese, lard and spinach and are served with melted butter or hot broth.
Another type of pasta typical of the Ampezzo cuisine are the Casunziei which in fact are crescent-shaped ravioli. Casunziei are stuffed with red turnip or potato which are flavored with melted butter and poppy seeds.
Pastin is a popular dish and is loved by locals and we recommend you to taste it before leaving Cortina. Pastin is a kind of meatloaf that is obtained from the mixture of freshly made and not seasoned salami which is cooked on the plate or on the grill.
From the Venetian tradition, however, Cortina inherited polenta and rise and bise (also known as rice and peas), flanked by bean soup (also called faariesa) or barley; Goulasch süppe, a specialty from Hungary, consisting of a paprika spiced meat soup. The pestariei are also very good, they are small pieces of white flour pasta that are cooked in boiling and salted milk and in the past were eaten for breakfast.
As for the main dishes of the Ampezzo cuisine we recommend you eat:
Game stew with cranberry jam.
Austrian Grostl (pork with boiled potatoes).
Roast with mushrooms
Rack of pork ribs
Traditional sausages such as speck, suppressed, ossocolli and various salamis are accompanied by delicious mountain cheeses and cow cheeses (generally they are not very mature) such as renaz, contrin, zumelle, fodom, schiz, zigher and tosela which in turn are accompanied by jams of the fruits of the undergrowth. As far as the side dishes are concerned, you should definitely try the fantastic Ampezzano potatoes which are cut into cubes and boiled and then sautéed in a pan with onion and speck.
Typical Ampezzo sweets also play their part on the Cortina tables:
Sacher pies stuffed with apricot jam
Apfelstrudel or the classic apple pie
Nighele or donuts without filling
Various cakes with cottage cheese
Undergrowth fruit pies
Krapfen with cream or jam
Furtaies (fried frappe)
Traditions also mix with regards to wines, in fact Veneto is presented with prosecco while the South Tyrolean shore with excellent wines such as Il Sylvaner, Riesling, Lagrein, Kerner, Muller-Thurgau and the inevitable Gewurtztraminer.
