Narvik, with its strategic position on the Ofot Fjord, is a perfect destination to start discovering the wonderful natural environment of this region of Norway. Although it is less famous than places like North Cape, the incredible natural attractions that arise in Narvik will leave an unforgettable memory in every traveler who goes to these latitudes. Set in a fascinating area, the Golf Courses put a strain on your attention to the game: the view that surrounds them is heavenly.

The Narvik region is at the center of the Ofoten district, a historical-administrative subdivision of the Norwegian state that insists on a magnificent area full of fjords and mountains overlooking the Norwegian Sea which form one of the most suggestive landscapes in the whole country. Narvik is located in a relatively mild climate bubble, due to the Gulf Stream that goes up to these latitudes making the temperatures less rigid than elsewhere.

Some tips on golf courses:

To book the Tee Time, it is best to send an email to the secretary of the Golf Club you have chosen, asking for availability, obviously indicating the day and an indicative time. You can find the e-mail address by opening the Golf Club website from “Open website” and then searching for “contacts” or some Golf Clubs have the form to fill out to get the Tee Time. I think it’s better to send an email to the Secretariat. Opens Google Map at the point of the Golf Club. You can have the necessary information to reach the playing field or to know the distances for example from the Hotel you have chosen for the stay.

WHAT TO EAT IN NARVIK REGION

In recent years, Norway has somewhat revolutionized its cuisine, which in the past was certainly not renowned for its variety and refinement. Today Norwegian cuisine is composed of quality dishes, which are inspired by tradition, but with a hint of innovation. But, apart from the recipes, the merit of the goodness of Norwegian dishes goes to quality raw materials: lamb and goat meat are considered among the best in the world and the country boasts an uncontaminated nature where vegetables, fruit and berries are grown, a sea that produces abundant quality fish, just think of Norwegian salmon, not to mention the delicious cheeses and dairy products produced in the country’s farms. There are many regional variations regarding traditional recipes, but below I list some of the most nationally known dishes and foods, which you absolutely must taste during your Golf Vacation to Norway.

  • Specialties with lamb

Fårikål
Considered the Norwegian national dish, fårikål is a stew of lamb and cabbage, a simple and very tasty second course, simply seasoned with pepper.

Fenalår
Fenalår is a cured meat obtained from dried leg of lamb outdoors in the mountain areas, spiced and seasoned. A soft ham with a delicate flavor is obtained. Fenalår is used to eat especially during the Christmas holidays, and mainly in winter, accompanied by bread and cheese.

pinnekjøtt
A characteristic and tasty dish, and also very popular in Norway, is the pinnekjøtt, made from lamb chops which are salted and dried and in some smoked variations. They are accompanied by sauces to dip the ribs and side dishes of vegetables and potatoes.

Other meats to try
Especially in the autumn season, the restaurants offer many game specialties, such as elk, reindeer, deer and capercaillie. Elk and deer have similar flavors and are often offered as steak, but also seasoned or smoked.

Reindeer is a delicious and very lean meat, unlike the capercaillie, a highly prized bird that stands out for its meat with an intense flavor. These meats can often be served with gravies, sauces and fruit and berry jams.

Smalahove
For the bravest you can try the Smalahove, or the sheep’s head, a traditional dish typical of western Norway. Usually it is consumed during Christmas, but you can find it at any time of the year. The head is salted, smoked and dried and then boiled or stewed and served with a side dish of potatoes or other vegetables. Originally it was a poor dish, born to not throw away any part of the animal, while today it is considered a real delicacy.

  • Fish dishes

Salmon
The icy and clean waters that surround Norway make Norwegian fish one of the best in the world and among these there is undoubtedly salmon. You can find smoked salmon called Røkt Laks, which you can also eat only with bread or in the gravlaks dish, where the salmon is marinated with salt and sugar and dill and is served in thin slices, generally accompanied by a little mustard .

Rakfisk
Fermented trout is another traditional dish very popular and suitable for the bravest! The trout is in fact left to rot for two to three months and then eaten usually served with onion, eggs and potatoes. The smell and taste are intense to say the least!

Skrei Mølje
Skrei mølje is a traditional cod broth, typical of coastal areas. The broth is obtained by cooking all parts of the fish, including the entrails. It is then accompanied with bread and onions.

  • Cheeses

Brunost or Geitost
It is Norway’s most famous cheese and the most popular with locals. You will surely find it in the morning at the breakfast buffet as it is a creamy and sweet cheese, which has a flavor similar to peanut butter and can be spread on bread. It has a caramel brown color and is obtained from goat’s milk.

Pultost
Pultost is an ancient cheese made with raw cow’s milk and flavored with cumin seeds. It can be eaten fresh or seasoned, has a pale yellow color and an intense flavor, which becomes stronger depending on the seasoning. It is served with potatoes or eaten with bread and a little butter.

Gamalost
Gamalost, which translated means “old cheese”, is a hard-yellow-brown aged cheese. It requires a rather long and complex manufacturing process.

  • Bread and side dishes

Flatbrød
This traditional bread has a yeast-free dough, with flour and water, from which rectangles or thin discs are obtained cooked on the grill or in an oven.

Raspeball
Raspeballs are potato dumplings, prepared with grated potatoes and various types of flour. In many variations, they are flavored with the addition of small pieces of meat.

  • Tipical desserts

Valnøtt lukket
Among Norway’s most famous desserts is valnøtt lukket, a marzipan cake covered with whipped cream.

Skillingsbolle
The skillingsbolle is a typical Bergen dessert, but is famous throughout Norway. It is a brioche dough donut sweetened with cinnamon and sugar.

Tilslørte bondepiker
It is a spoon dessert, usually served in a glass and provides different states in which baked apples, cream and toast alternate for a perfect contrast between crispness and softness

  • Typical drinks

Brandy
The Norwegian brandy, however, differs in the addition of cumin and anise that make the spiced fragrant spirits. Among the most famous brands are Lysholm Linie, Løiten Linie, Gammel Opland and Simers Taffel and they are excellent as a digestive.

Beer
Norway does not have a great tradition of beers, since until a few years ago they were mostly imported, but today you can find some local brands such as Ringnes and Frydenlund, which are commonly found in pubs.
